“Without losing quality” is marketing. Encoding always discards something. The practical version: lose pixels a reviewer will not notice.

  • Crop before you compress.
  • Stay at 0.75–0.85 for anything with faces or stamps.
  • Do not rasterize a digital-born text PDF unless you must; the original vectors are smaller and sharper.
  • Repair PDF sometimes shrinks a bloated export by rewriting object streams.
