Visa and NADRA forms still speak in kilobytes. A phone photo of a bank statement is often 4–8MB. The portal will not negotiate. This guide is the sequence that actually lands under 100KB, 200KB or 300KB without turning a CNIC into grey mush.
Typical limits you will see in 2026
These are the caps people hit on Pakistan-related forms. Always read the field hint — one embassy uses 200KB per page, another uses 1MB for the whole packet.

If the form says one file, 200KB, do not merge the CNIC and the statement first. Compress each scan, then upload each field.
The sequence that works
1. Crop before you compress
Open Crop PDF. Pull the box to the paper edge. Phone scans include thumbs, table wood and a black border. Those pixels are why a one-page CNIC is 3MB. Cropping is free size you do not have to buy back with a harsher JPEG.
Rotate first if the page is sideways — Rotate PDF.
2. Compress at 0.7, then step down
Open Compress PDF. Start at 0.72. Download and look at the file size in your phone’s Files app or on desktop. Still over the cap? Try 0.55. Stop before 0.4 on anything with a face or a wet stamp.
A born-digital bank PDF (exported from the bank app) is often already small. Compressing it again can increase size if the tool rasterizes vector text. If the file is 80KB, leave it.
3. Split multi-page packets
A 20-page statement will not become 200KB without destroying type. Split PDF into the pages the form actually asked for (last 3 months, not the whole year), then compress each piece.
4. Last resort: JPG round-trip
If a portal is still angry, PDF to JPG at medium quality, then JPG to PDF. That is uglier than a direct compress, but it is how people hit exactly 100KB for older job sites.
What not to do
- Do not email a CNIC to a “free compressor” that sends a download link. That inbox is the product.
- Do not screenshot the PDF and upload the screenshot. You add another generation of JPEG.
- Do not use “strong compression” presets you cannot see. PakPDF shows the quality number.
Privacy on ID scans
