A PDF is a fixed page. Portable Document Format stores the layout — fonts, lines, photos — so a letter looks the same on a laptop in Lahore and a phone in Dubai. That is the whole point. It is not a Word file, and it is not a photo, though it can contain both.
“What is a pdf” fell in interest, but it is still the question under every “convert pdf” search. If you know which kind of PDF you have, you pick the right tool the first time.
Two kinds of PDF

When not to keep it as a PDF
- You must rewrite a paragraph: PDF to Word, then Word to PDF when you are done.
- A form wants JPG: PDF to JPG.
- A sheet of numbers should sum in Excel: PDF to Excel.
- Someone sent 12 one-page PDFs: Merge PDF.
What a PDF is not
It is not automatically safe. A PDF can contain scripts, attachments, and your full CNIC scan. Viewing locally is safer than uploading it to a random “what is a pdf” explainer that also offers a converter. Read more in what is a PDF reader.
